OST 3.95 - 05.01.01 Auto Page Naming (Plus)

Reference Number: AA-01588 Views: 4388 Created: 11/28/2017 05:56 am Last Updated: 04/18/2018 10:51 am 0 Rating/ Voters

On-Screen Takeoff can help you get your project setup in no time. Instead of having to name each of your Pages to match the drawing, rotate them correctly, and organize them into Folders before doing takeoff, let On-Screen Takeoff do it for you. Only TIF, PDFs, and JPG file times can be processed. If you are using another file type (such as DWF), just follow the instructions in Related articles to convert to TIF and then run Auto Naming.

NoteS

You must be under a current Maintenance Subscription to use Auto-Naming (Plus). If you have allowed your Subscription to lapse, please contact our Client Services at 866-426-2447 to renew today!

You must have an active, high-speed Internet connection to use this feature. Please see Related articles for information on ensuring your Firewall is set up to allow this communication with the "Cloud".

How It Works

After you load your drawings (see OST 3.95 - 02.01 Linking (Adding, Uploading, Importing) Plans (Drawings, Images, Sheets) to a Bid for a refresher on that), you can have On-Screen Takeoff analyze your drawings and then make suggestions for Page Name and Rotation (orientation), even organize your plans by Discipline. Auto Page Naming (Plus) scans the page to try extract the most appropriate name, orientation, and discipline for each drawing. You have the ability to accept these suggestions before they are applied.

Warning
Auto-Page Naming connects to our Cloud server and uploads a copy of your plans for analysis. It is your responsibility to ensure this does not violate any legal or contractual obligations you have regarding sharing or electronically transmitting the plans you are using.

On the Cover Sheet, click the Auto Name Images button, on the control toolbar.

On-Screen Takeoff prepares all Pages that have not previously been processed through Auto Naming (so, if you run Auto Naming and then add more Pages to your Project, you can run Auto Naming again, and it will pick up just those new Pages). During the Preparing phase, all Pages are converted to a file that can be uploaded and analyzed quickly (jpg's to be exact).

Once converted to jpg, the files are uploaded to On Center's Cloud for analysis.

In the Cloud, the files are processed (analysed)...

You will be presented with Suggestions for Page Name, Rotation/Orientation, and Discipline. If Auto Naming is unable to recognize the Page Name correctly, you can always make adjustments in the dialog box.

next article

You can modify the Suggested Name (or Page Title, they update each other).

You can review Page orientation for each Page before accepting the Suggestions. If you rotate an existing page in this dialog box, it is rotated immediately, even if you do not click "Accept Changes". However if you adjust a page that has not been saved previously in the Cover Sheet, rotation is not applied unless you click "Accept Changes".

Click in the upper preview (on the right side), hold down <CTRL>, and use the scroll wheel on your mouse to zoom into the preview so you can read the details better.

Check the "Organize in folders..." option if you'd like On-Screen Takeoff to organize your plans by the Discipline detected. You can select which files you want to organize into Disciplines (folders) and leave others where they were by using the checkboxes on the left. To change a Discipline, just click the drop-down selector - you can select from a pre-established list of Disciplines based on industry standards. Discipline is suggested based on the Sheet Number ("A" for Architectural, "S" for Structural, etc.).

next article

These "Disciplines" become Folders on the Cover Sheet.

Once you've accepted the Suggestions, On-Screen Takeoff updates the Cover Sheet...

next article

If you choose not to use Auto-Naming, or you would like to organize your Pages in a manner other than by Discipline, you can create your own folders.
