From time to time, it may become necessary to restart Enterprise License Manager. If you are rebooting your server and you've followed the installation instructions properly, the license manager will come back up automatically. If, in the course of your day-to-day operations you determine it is necessary to restart one or more components of the ELM, follow the instructions below.

If the license manager does not automatically restart when you reboot your server, you may have missed a step during installation. See Related articles for assistance with configuring LMAdmin to starting automatically upon reboot.

Caution
If you are using ELM-Virtual Server Edition and you've restarted the machine on which LMBind runs, be sure the executable is running or the service started before attempting to start the Virtual Server/ELM-VSE. If LMBind is not running, ELM-VSE will not serve licenses.

First, determine what needs to restarted, then click on one of the links below...

The Vendor Daemon

Caution
Stopping the the vendor daemon (oncenter.exe) or the LMAdmin service will cause all floating licenses on the network to be dropped (On Center's application will drop their licenses within approximately 10 minutes). End users will be unable to authorize any software to this Server until all components of the license manager are started.

Restarting the Vendor Daemon (oncenter.exe)

Open the License Server Management Interface

Click on Administration

Click on Vendor Daemon Configuration

Locate "oncenter" in the list of running daemons, click on the Name or "Administer"

In the Vendor Daemon:oncenter screen, click Stop

LMAdmin attempts to stop oncenter.exe

Once the daemon is stopped, the Vendor Daemons list displays the new status (it may be necessary to refresh the screen to see current information):

Click 'oncenter' to open the daemon details page, again

Click Start and LMAdmin attempts to start oncenter.exe again

The daemon's status can always be viewed on the Vendor Daemon Configuration screen - refresh the screen to see current information.

Restarting the LMAdmin "Service"

The LMAdmin service communicates with every vendor daemon on a server. Stopping LMAdmin will cause ALL license manager licensing to terminate for any product line that is using LMAdmin, not just On Center's ELM. (not just ELM, but any licensing server that uses LMAdmin).

Caution
Stopping the the LMAdmin Service will cause all floating licenses on the network to be dropped (On Center's application will drop their licenses within approximately 10 minutes). End users will be unable to authorize any software to this Server (not just On Center's, but any software that runs a license manager on this server) until all components of the license manager are started.
Do not stop the LMAdmin service from the LMAdmin Management Console - you will have to open Windows Computer Management to restart it anyway.

To stop or restart the LMAdmin service,

Open Windows Management Console or Task Manager and select "Services"

Locate lmadmin in the list, right-click and select Stop or Restart

The vendor daemon, oncenter.exe is automatically disabled when LMAdmin is not running.

When LMAdmin is restarted, all vendor daemons should be started automatically.

Restarting the Activation Utility

There are two parts to the Activation Utility - the part you see on the desktop (the Activation Utility) and the part that communicates with On Center's licensing servers (the 'transport' process).

The Enterprise License Manager Activation Utility is an executable that is launched by clicking the icon on the desktop. This utility can be closed when not needed by clicking the red X in the upper right corner. If this process becomes unresponsive, you can end the "ServerActivationUtility.exe" using Task Manager.

The transport utility is a service that is only visible from Task Manager. Right-click this service and select "Restart" or "Stop" and then "Start".
