Version: 1.1.0

There are two editions of Enterprise License Manager (ELM) - the version you require depends on where the license manager is to be installed, not where On-Screen Takeoff, Quick Bid, or Digital Production Control are installed. These two editions of ELM are not interchangeable - please contact your Account Manager for more information.

  • If you are installing on a physical server, meaning a hardware device that is running an operating system as the base machine and not acting as a virtual host review the ELM System Requirements.
  • If the server on which you plan to install ELM is a virtual server, meaning, it is a Windows server running within a 'virtual session' on another server, keep reading...

Host Platform

  • Windows Server 2008 R2 Hyper-V
  • Windows Server 2012
  • Windows Server 2012 R2
  • VMWare ESX Virtual Server 4.x
  • VMWare ESXi Virtual Server, 5.x

This list of Host Server operating systems are those that On Center Software has tested and certified to work with our Enterprise License Manager. In theory, other virtualization servers (such as VMWare NSX, Citrix, and WMWare Workstation), may work provided they host a supported Windows virtual machine that can correctly communicate with the physical LMBind machine. On Center provides no technical support for installations that do not meet our System Requirements. If you would like to suggest a host OS for certification, you may contact your Account Manager at On Center Software.

Virtual Server Operating System

  • Windows 7 SP1 (Pro or Ultimate)
  • Windows 8.1 (PRO)
  • Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1, full file-server versions w/GUI**
  • Windows Server 2012 w/GUI
  • Windows Server 2012 R2 w/GUI
  • Windows Server 2016 w/GUI

32- and 64-Bit operating systems are Supported.

**On Center Software does not formally test Small Business Server 2011, however the underlying server is Windows Server 2008 R2 and should pose no compatibility issues.

Binding Machine

The virtual server must be 'bound' to a physical machine on your network, at all times. This machine does not need to be the Host server although Hyper-V and VMWare Esx servers can function as the binding machine (ESXi servers cannot function as a binding machine). Supported operating systems include: 64-Bit Windows 7, Windows 8.1, Windows Server 2008 R2, or Server 2012. This machine cannot permit multiple, concurrent connections. Neither 32-Bit operating systems nor Windows 10 are supported.

Hardware Requirements

If your Host and Virtual servers meet the System Requirements for the above operating systems, they will run Enterprise License Manager.

Other Requirements

  • An Internet connection is required by virtual server (to activate license codes) and workstations (to validate license obtained from ELM)
  • ELM must be installed by Windows administrator
  • Workstations must be on the same domain as the ELM server
  • You will need to configure your firewall to permit communication (detailed in the User Guide)
  • The ELM Server cannot be located behind a Proxy
  • .net 2.0 is required for the Virtual server (this is installed as part of .net 3.5 - contact Microsoft Support for assistance with installing this component)
  • Flexnet Publisher Admin (LMAdmin) v. 11.13 or newer (available from the ELM download page) ELM cannot be installed on a server on which ANY older Flexera license manager technology is installed (lmgrd, for instance).
  • Installing ELM-Vse may require a reboot of your Virtual server, please plan accordingly.
  • Installing ELM-Vse requires knowledge of Windows, Virtualization, and Networking concepts.

Important Notes

Review the installation instructions in the User Guide (see Related articles) carefully and thoroughly before installing the product. It is your responsibility to ensure that your environment will support Enterprise License Manager - Virtual Server Edition.

The LM Binding Agent must be installed on a physical computer and must remain running at all times. The Binding Agent creates a link to a physical piece of hardware to prevent the licenses from being used on multiple virtual images at one time. This is by design and cannot be circumvented.

You cannot install ELM on a remote server (such as a hosted, 3rd party site) unless that site is part of your company's domain. Installing Enterprise License Manager - Virtual Server Edition requires advanced understanding of Host/Guest server configuration.

On Center Software does not provide advanced technical assistance for the installation, configuration, or maintenance of any virtualization software. Please contact a qualified IT Professional directly for assistance.

This User Guide provides you, the end user, with a detailed reference for ELM (Enterprise License Manager). We've made every effort to include as much detail as possible. If you feel something is missing, please contact Support right away.

Typographic Conventions

  • Terms of importance, titles to dialog boxes, button names, Tabs, and Main Menu items are bolded for easy recognition when skimming through pages.
  • When instructed to select Menu choices in the application, each selection (click) is separated by the greater than (>) symbol and Italicized. For example, if instructed to select the Open command in the File menu, it appears as File > Open.
  • Many topics contain links to other articles or hyperlinks to other Web sites, including Frequently Asked Questions. Anything formatted as blue underlined text is a link to additional information. Most links to external sites and articles not in the User Guide open in a New Window - be sure to disable any pop-up blockers if the User Guide is not working correctly and verify your Internet connection is active.
  • Words or phrases referencing a common principle or important concept are Italicized for emphasis.
  • When you are instructed to press a key on your keyboard, the name of the key will be bracketed, like this: <Shift> (means to press the Shift key on your keyboard) or <Enter> (means to press the Enter key on your keyboard)
