Apple’s New Environmentally-Friendly Campus Breaks Ground

Posted: April 6, 2014

Apple breaks ground on their new “Campus 2” (affectionately called the “spaceship”) after getting approval from the Cupertino city council. Aerial photographs indicate that demolition is well underway to prepare the site for the first phase of construction.

The design of the campus is already enough to talk about, but what’s really taking the spotlight is their focus on sustainability. The campus was designed to take advantage of sustainable resources such as energy generated by using alternate fuel sources and creating an underground parking lot as to leave the landscape untouched above. They will also be planting more than 6,000 trees around the 150-acre site.

Apple has made sustainable improvements to their products, too; 8 of the computers currently in their lineup “have received the EPA’s gold standard for environmental soundness” as well as a 3% reduction in emission from its facilities.
