Baker Triangle is a Texas based drywall and EIFS company. Their mega-projects include National League football, baseball, and stadiums, churches, high-rise office buildings, universities, and hospitals.
Jeremy Green, an estimator for Baker Triangle took time out to comment on his experiences using On Center Software’s Quick Bid and On-Screen Takeoff.
“Being an estimator with little experience 12 years ago, I used the tools given to me by my employer. I have worked with three different drywall companies in the past 12 years and fortunately for me, my employer(s) have always preferred to use the OCS products. With my current experience today, software selection is not a decision I would need to consider! Rather, my decision for future employment would be based on the company’s use of OCS products. In the last six years we have all seen a ‘boom’ in construction which has created a shortage of estimators/project managers. I have been personally contacted numerous times by different organizations to ‘jump ship’ and go to work for them. My first question today for the ‘would be’ employers is what estimating/project management software does your company use? When asked if the software they utilized to help estimate or manage projects would persuade my decision, I answer ‘Absolutely!!!’”.

Mr. Green went on to say, “[OCS has] knowledgeable staff all around. If my sales person can not answer the question or help with tech support, he will call out the big guns (support tech) and get me rolling in no time. With Remote Assistance, the tech can take over my PC and show me exactly what I need to do like they were sitting right next to me. It is awesome!”
“[Baker Triangle] has estimating and project management separated. Once the project estimator makes the sale, we hand off the project to the person that will now pick up the pieces and manage it. More and more we are seeing jobs bid today and start tomorrow. A lot of times, the project managers are given little time to get into the jobs before the GC is screaming to order material and start building the job, with OCS products (Quick Bid and On-Screen Takeoff) we are capable of sharing data bases which does not require the project manager to re-invent the wheel. They can take my estimate and take off and run with it if need be on the quick starting projects. Very helpful!”
Mr. Green concluded by stating how On Center continues to help improve profits for Baker Triangle. “On most any project, keeping up with changes is crucial to the bottom line. With OCS products, we can generate multiple different reports to aid us in pricing the changes, keeping them logged, updating our budgets per task, and keeping track on what that change ended up costing us or making us. We are also able to generate reports that break down and show the items we want to show which makes it very easy to understand and show where the cost is. We have noticed that if we attach a bid summery along with our price, the GC can see at a glance what we are pricing and even see LF/SF cost if we choose to share that information. It seems to get the pricing accepted much quicker than turning in a lump sum cost with no explanation.”
