| Can I still use CPC
files in OST 3.4? |
Yes – however, they must be converted to TIF format – OST no longer is able to
display CPC files in native format. |
| How does the
converter work? |
When you add a CPC file to a new project or access an existing project with CPC
files, the user will get a prompt advising them that they OST no longer supports native CPC files and that they must convert. They should select “Yes to ALL”.
The application will launch ‘CPCTool.exe’ which is a utility provided by Cartesian
(the ‘owners’ of the CPC file type). The FIRST TIME they run CPCTool.exe they will
be prompted to read/accept a User Agreement from Cartesian – they MUST
accept this or the converter will not work. |
| How can I get the
CPCTool to work
with Windows Vista? |
Due to the way Windows Vista maintains security, even if a user is an Admin, they
aren’t really running AS AN ADMIN most of the time – only if an application invokes
the Admin level of security (like our installer does) does Windows pass an “Admin Token” to the user for a specific use (like installing an app, writing to the system registry,
deleting certain files…). The CPCTool does NOT invoke the Admin token correctly
– the only way around this is for an Admin to RIGHT CLICK on the CPCTool.exe file
(located at C:\Program Files\On-Screen Takeoff 3\) and select “Run as
Administrator”. Then, they can read/accept the license agreement. Once this is completed,
the CPCTool will work normally. |
| What happens to
my existing takeoff
when I convert the
CPC to TIF? |
Your takeoff should not be affected. If anything, you may need to make very
minor adjustments to the scale. (Use the “Calculate Scale” feature – all of your
takeoff will re-size itself once the scale is changed). |
When using the
Planroom tab in
On-Screen Takeoff,
why won’t my images
convert correctly? |
The CPCTool user agreement was not accepted by an Administrator (see above) or
the user has the Planroom Folder pointing to a location where they cannot create
the directory structure. Even if they have ACCESS to a particular location, they have
to be mindful of 2 things: 1.) They may not have access to WRITE/Create
folders/files in that location and 2.) Depending on how complex the folder structure,
OST may not be able to accommodate the number of characters in the folder path
(limited to 256 characters TOTAL including the file name). |
