Why would you want to return a license code?
There are three primary reasons:
- You need to activate a license code (or codes) on a different server (moving ELM to a new server)
- You have purchased or suspended licenses (your license count has changed)
- On Center releases and upgrade to OST/QB/DPC and you need to replace your license codes with newer codes
- It is your responsibility to manage your Activation Codes and license utilization - On Center Software cannot revoke licenses in use on Workstations, deactivate an Enterprise License Manager server, nor prevent your network users who know your license manager's server name from obtaining a license.
- On Center is unable to restore/revoke a license to your server that an employee has borrowed - you will simply need to wait until it expires naturally if the user cannot return it. For example, this can happen if your employee leaves your company or if an employee's computer crashes or is stolen.
- Activation Codes cannot be returned if any licenses are borrowed against On Center's vendor daemon (oncenter.exe). For example, even if you are trying to return a TKO code but an EST license is borrowed, you will be unable to return the OST code. You will need to work with your end users to get them to return borrowed licenses to the server - Use LMAdmin Management Console to see who is using licenses (floating and borrowed). Floating license do not affect Returning.
- The server must have an active Internet connection to return (deactivate) an Authorization Code and the vendor daemon (oncenter.exe) and LMAdmin must be running.
To Return an Activation code
Open Enterprise License Manager by double-clicking the icon on the server's Desktop.
Highlight the Code in the Activated Codes box and right-click on it (select all codes by clicking on the first code in the list, hold down the <Shift> key and right-click the last code in the list).
Click Return - Enterprise License Manager will:
- Check to verify that the vendor daemon (oncenter.exe) and LMAdmin are running,
- Check to see if any licenses are borrowed against the vendor daemon (oncenter.exe), if any licenses remain borrowed (for any feature), the return process is cancelled,
- Send this Activation Code (or codes) back to On Center Software and delete the 'fulfillment" from our server and remove the licenses from your server
Repeat for all activated codes.
Each activation code can be returned separately - be sure you return the all if you are moving ELM to a new server. Returning one code does not necessarily mean all codes have been returned.
You can now install ELM and activate the code(s) on a different server.
Recently Activated Codes
The last several, previously-activated codes remain in the Activation Code dialog box so they can quickly be reactivated in the future.
