ON CENTER SOFTWARE RELEASES QUICK BID 4.8
20th Anniversary Edition of Software Solution for the Construction Industry
Features Dozens of Enhancements
THE WOODLANDS, TEXAS (February 5, 2008) – Twenty years after Leonard Buzz founded On Center
Software with the launch of his Quick Bid concept, the company has released the newest edition of the
popular software solution for the construction industry. Quick Bid 4.8 -- from the leading provider of electronic
plan viewing, takeoff, estimating and production tracking software for the construction industry --
incorporates dozens of new features and enhancements to help estimators work faster and more
accurately than ever.
"Over the past two decades, Quick Bid has been the tool of choice for thousands of estimators, enabling
them to create bids much more rapidly and accurately than possible than with a pencil and calculator," said Buzz. "The latest enhancements were developed and refined through collaboration with our
customers, and are designed to streamline their everyday tasks even further and help increase job wins."
The new features include the eQuote service, enabling estimators to easily relay a request for a materials
quote. The eQuote functionality is accessed through the Materials tab in Quick Bid 4.8.
Among the other added features in Quick Bid 4.8 are:
• The ability to modify Indirect Expenses while selecting View All Sections
• Support of CSI Master Formats 1995 & 2004 to ensure information accuracy
• The capability to override Labor Burden, through the Markup Detail dialog
• The ability to pack/unpack bid information and send it through email, improving program utilization
• An option within Conditions Detail to ignore the width and depth fields for EA conditions if desired
• The ability to permit locked bids to be viewed using the read-only mode
• A Feature Request button, positioned within the main toolbar, facilitating quick and easy
submission of comments and suggestions
• The option to Remember Login Name and Password, through the Login screen that appears
during program start-up
• An option to resize the Coversheet dialog box, improving program interface
• Restoration of the option to add a subcontractor directly under a selected section on the
Subs tab
• Updated accessibility of the Cost Codes Master list, on the AEC tab in the Company Detail
dialog, for ease of use when adding companies on the Subs tab
• A Production Updated column in the Labor tab to help identify when a user has modified the
production for specific labor items.
Items repositioned in Quick Bid 4.8 include the Save as Default button. For ease of operation, it is now
located in the Indirect Expenses dialog at the bid level.
Stability of the Chained Item Size/Style information within the Master Item Detail has been addressed,
too. The refinement prevents changes from occurring during the editing of Size or Style within a
Condition Detail of a bid.
Also in Quick Bid 4.8, various enhancements facilitate easier reporting/exporting:
• The latest print option allows the selection of printers, through the print dialog, for users of the
Windows Vista operating systems
• Increased line spacing and improved word-wrapping performance have been applied within the
fields on the Subs, Equipment, and Other tab printouts
• Word wrapping functionally on the Subs tab printouts has been improved
• The display of Material Cost Code tax information within the Job Cost Summary Exports has
been further developed
• The capability to print out labor production information (Qty/Day, Pcs/Day or Crew/Day) has
been maximized for the Condition Detail printout.
Additionally, from a performance standpoint, communication processes between Quick Bid and On
Center Software's On-Screen Takeoff® have been refined to improve the speed of interactivity. Other
Quick Bid 4.8 enhancements boost the software's display functionality:
• Typical Areas have been applied to the Area drop-down menu, within the Conditions tab
• A column within the Other tab has been relabeled "Wage Type," from "Wage"
• Functions related to scrolling for users of the Windows Vista platform have been updated for maximum utilization.
Quick Bid 4.8 is part of the On Center ProfitBuilding™ Suite of products which, in addition to
On-Screen Takeoff® 3.6, include Digital Production Control™. For more information about On Center
