Greg Duyka, On Center Software Sales Support Manager, recently spoke at the Firestop Contractors International Association (FCIA) Education and Committee Action Conference in Chicago. The FCIA’s mission is for member organizations to be recognized throughout the construction industry as preferred quality contractors of life safety firestop systems.
Duyka demonstrated the benefits of using computer-assisted takeoff and estimating software. He compared the process of doing quantity takeoffs and estimating by hand to doing them with computers, and by using electronic plans instead of paper drawings. The majority of attendees indicated that they were doing their takeoffs and estimating manually, often resulting in costly mistakes and delays.
Attendees saw examples of electronic image takeoff done specifically for the fire stopping trade, using On Center Software’s On-Screen Takeoff program. Duyka also demonstrated the new fire stopping database in QuickBid, showing how the program fit their needs for material and labor pricing issues. The overall response from the group was very positive and it appears this industry is eager to take advantage of computer-assisted bidding and project management.
